Martin Newby
C12 Board Member; Chairman of Newby Management
Martin is a founding member of C12 who has been recognized as a “C12 Hero” for his continuing role, as C12 member and Board member, in the growth and development of the C12 network of Christ-centered companies.
23 years ago, Martin was a frustrated Christian who owned a business and was struggling to be an effective witness in business. He lacked the ideas needed to turn this desire into fruitful action. By God’s grace, he met Buck Jacobs, who became a mentor, role model and encourager. Buck’s "Action Plan for Ministry" booklet helped Martin see that God had given him a business as his ministry…not just as a way to make lots of money to give to ministries. This brought Martin release, freedom and fulfillment as a Christian in business and served to change the focus of his life and the culture of his company. Today, it brings the same freedom for the team members at Newby Management. Now they are free to be in 24/7 "full-time ministry"! Martin has seen many business associates come to Christ each year and, for the last seven years, they have a full-time corporate chaplain assisting them with serving and ministering in the workplace.
Martin and his wife of 48 years (and their 12 grandchildren) didn't sell the company that God had given them, but rather developed a succession plan that would enhance their ministry. While the business was expanding so was the ministry. In addition to greater ministry at Newby Management, God also planted a seed of interest for ministry to the very poor villagers in the Dominican Republic along with a dear friend and fellow C12 member, Brent Whitehead. As more of the business was turned over to the next generation, more time was made available for greater involvement in the Dominican Republic ministry.
It has been a joy for Martin to participate in what God is doing through C12, whether serving on the Board, mentoring younger men, or being ministered to by his peers. Since his greatest fear is not “finishing strong,” he really appreciates the support, counsel, encouragement and accountability he receives from his C12 peers.
The gospel is not just the ABCs of the Christian life, but the A to Z of the Christian life. -
